Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana
Beti Bachao beti padhao scheme is a campaign of the Government of India with a vision to stop female foeticide and promote girl’s child education across the country. It was launched with an initial corpus of Rs.100crores.The child sex ratio in India had been declining at an alarming rate.
According the population census of 2011, the child sex ratio in India was 919 females aged 0 to 6 years old. In the year 2014 on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child which is celebrated every year on October 11, Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addresses the general public to help end sexism against girls in India.
Thus, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme was launched on 22 January 2015 by him. It aims to deal with the difficulty of the declining child sex ratio. It is a nationwide initiative jointly run by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Education.

Popular schemes under BBBP
Balika Samriddhi Yojana: The benefits of Balika Samriddhi Yojana are restricted to 2 girl children in each family regardless of the total number of children within the house also; the 2 girl children should be born on or after 15th August 1997. A grant sum of Rs.500/- post the female child’s birth.On the successful completion of every academic year, school-going children are provided with the annual scholarships mentioned below:

Ladli Laxmi Yojana
Ladli Laxmi Yojana was launched by the Govt of Madhya Pradesh in 2007. The aim of this scheme is to bring a change within the negative mindset of the society on the birth of a girl child. After an overall success of the scheme, other states also adopted and implemented the same for the upliftment of female child.
- The state government purchases National Savings Certificates (NSC) worth Rs.6000/- each year within the name of the female child after her birth. The purchase of NSC is continued for 5 consecutive years until the overall amount becomes Rs.30,000/-.
- The female child registered under this scheme will get a particular amount of cash when she is promoted to:

- The girl received Rs.200/- monthly throughout her education after class XI till class XII as an addition to Rs.4, 000/-.
- If the girl isn’t married before the age of 18 years, she will receive amount of Rs.1 lakh when her age becomes 21 years.
Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana
The Sukanya Yojana is a government-backed small deposit scheme for a girl child and her financial needs. Sukanya Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Sukanya Samriddhi scheme focuses on girl child prosperity scheme launched under Beti Padhao Beti Bachao program. A parent or guardian can open a savings account within the name of a girl child. The interest rates are decided by government of India once a year. The rate of interest currently stands at 7.6% p.a.
Ladli scheme
Ladli Scheme is the social welfare scheme of the State Government of Haryana to encourage the birth of girl child and to ultimately balance the sex ratio within the state.
- Rs. 5,000 every year per family for a period of 5 years.
- This whole amount is transferred directly to the zero balance account of the beneficiary girl child. If there doesn’t exist a zero balance account, a new zero balance account has to be opened in the name of the beneficiary girl child to avail the advantages under the scheme.
- The amount is transferred when the girl child reaches the age of 18 years.
Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana
Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana is one of the most proficient schemes launched in West Bengal by the State Government. This scheme performs a conditional cash transfer plan aiming to improve and advancement the status of the female child.
- Discourages the concept of early marriage and ensures that laws regarding the minimum age of marriage must be followed by every family.
- In order to encourage the continuation of education for girls in Secondary and Higher Secondary classes, educational scholarships are provided. Encouraging the girls to pursue sports and other vocational training programmes.
- Since the aim was to provide a monetary help as well as a tool of empowerment for the adolescent girls, the Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana deposits the financial inclusions directly into a bank account in the girls name. This also helps them take their own decisions about the utilization of the money.

Eligibility Criteria
- A female child below the age of 10 years.
- There should be a Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA) in any bank, opened within the name of the girl child.
- The female child should be an Indian citizen.
Beti bachao Beti Padhao – Documents Required
- Certificate of birth issued by the hospital or a recognized government body.
- Identity proof of the Parents- Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, etc.
- Address proof of the Parents- Passport, Driving license, bills like water, telephone, electricity etc.
- Passport size photograph.
How to Apply for the Scheme?
- The Banks and the post offices around the corner are the foremost accessible place to apply for the scheme.
- Fill the application form for BBBP/SSA.
- The form is to be filled manually and attached with all the applicable documents
- Submit the documents to the bank/post office. The account must be opened in the name of the girl child.
